Family theatre and summer camps to return to Delaware shore

February 9, 2018

The Rehoboth Summer Children's Theatre will return to the Delaware shore for the 37th summer of sparkling family plays and outstanding camps for youth. Three classic tales of fantasy and fun take the stage from Wednesday, June 27, to Thursday, Aug. 23. Children will show their own theatre and filmmaking skills in week-long camps beginning Monday, July 9. Once again, Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth is home base for these outstanding programs.

The RSCT professional company will perform three plays in rotation. Leading off is "Cinderella," the well-loved story of royalty, romance and fabulous footwear. Opening-night curtain is 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 27. The next week, genies, sorcerers and sultans appear in a spirited production of "Aladdin." Later in July, audiences will travel back in time to the Greece of storyteller Aesop with "Androcles and the Lion," the fable of a brave lad who pulls a thorn from the paw of a fierce lion. Each show is performed by two actors bringing all the characters to life in the unique format that has thrilled audiences since 1982.

RSCT also offers week-long camps for children ages 5-14. Film & TV Camps are conducted Monday to Friday, July 9 to 13 and July 30 to Aug. 3. Participants, ages 8-14, write, direct and act in original films. There are four weeks of Theatre Camp: Monday to Friday, July 16 to 20, July 23 to 27, Aug. 13 to 17 and Aug. 20 to 24. Campers ages 5 and 6 meet from 9 a.m. to noon. Ages 7 to 12 meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Campers join in stage games and rehearse a play for a performance at the end of each week.

All Rehoboth Summer Children's Theatre activities take place in Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach. The church is one block off Coastal Highway next to Tanger Seaside Outlets. There is plenty of free parking. Tickets to the shows are $10. Children under 3 are admitted free.
