Lewes industry in the mid 1930s

Everett Bryan was a pharmacist in Lewes in the first half of the 20th century who also had an intense interest in photography. He captured scenes throughout the Lewes community including this photo, and one a few weeks back, showing the railroad crossing of Kings Highway on the southeast side of town.

This one shows more detail about the industry in that part of town which included a canning facility and a plant that converted coal into a kind of gas. They are long since gone, and that space is now occupied by the restaurant, garden center and retail operation known as The Station on Kings.

The historic industrial facilities are shown on the right side of this photograph. The image was made from the north side of the crossing looking southward along Kings Highway.
