“Welcome to the Farmhouse.” On opening week, Kristen Latham fluffed the pillows on the couch and welcomed customers as if they were old friends.

The cozy atmosphere of The Suburban Farmhouse Coffee House is a result of Kristen Latham's love of interior design.

The rustic charm of the historic Sussex Trust Title and Safe Deposit Co. on Federal Street in Milton mixes easily with the contemporary flair of a big city bistro.

Espresso or coffee lovers can step out of the box and try a cinnamon roll or Almond Joy latte, or have a hot or iced chai or cappuccino.

Soon to be known for the Cruffin choose one for breakfast or lunch, along with pastries and sandwiches. Latham has a sweet spot for the devils egg salad sandwich.

About 12 local artisans offer their goods throughout the shop, including a candlemaker, a chocolatier, a jeweler and a photographer.

She and business partner Nikki Kotwika know people want to stay connected, so there is free wifi and power docks at the Farmhouse, despite the sign that says “No wifi, talk to each other.”

The Farmhouse is open 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 108 Federal St. in Milton. When Milton has events after hours, the plan is to be open to accommodate the crowds in town.
